J.D. Martinez shined in his second game of the season and hit his second home run in the ninth inning to give the Detroit Tigers a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday.
Martinez opened the episode in the ninth with a solo homer off Bud Norris (1-2) to break a 3-3 draw. He had left the roster on Friday after missing the Tigers’ first 33 games with a sprained right foot.

Martinez opened the board in the second inning after a Víctor Martínez single with a two-run homer to Ricky Nolasco.
The game continued 2-0 to the fifth, when Albert Pujols hit a two-run single against starter Daniel Norris for the Angels. That raised Pujols’ count to 1,844 RBIs, tying with Carl Yastrzemski in 11th place on the historic baseball roster.
Alex Wilson (1-1) worked the eighth and took the win. Justin Wilson struck out three in the ninth for his second save.
