The San Francisco Giants put Buster Posey on the injured list for seven days after suffering concussion symptoms on Tuesday, a day after being hit in the head by a straight from Taijuan Walker, Diamondbacks pitcher Of Arizona.
After the Giants’ 4-1 win on Monday, manager Bruce Bochy said Posey was well, but warned that he would remain under observation overnight and submit to further analysis on Tuesday. Then the Giants decided not to take chances with the caterer, named National League Most Valuable Player in 2012 and Rookie of the Year in 2010.
The straight with count of 0-1 and two outs in the first inning hit in the helmet to Posey, that collapsed immediately. Kinesiologist Dave Groeschner came to the plate, followed by Bochy.
Posey managed to join but left the match. Nick Hundley entered as an emerging runner and continued playing as a catcher.
The Giants acquired the contract from catcher Tim Federowicz, who came from the Triple A branch in Sacramento, to take Posey’s place. Right-handed pitcher Clayton Blackburn was discharged.
Fortuna for Atletico and hard rivals for Madrid and Barça with the advantage that they will play the return at home.
