The Mariners will be very cautious with the recovery of ace Venezuelan Felix Hernandez, who recovers from an inflammation in the right shoulder.
Originally scheduled for two rehab starts, Hernandez will need a third exit, according to Seattle manager Scott Servais.
“We have talked to Felix about what we saw in his first opening and we want to make sure he is ready for when he rejoins the big team,” Servais explained. “We’ll see how he feels in the coming days, but we talk about the plan and that will be the best thing for him right now.”
Hernandez gave up five runs, four hits with two conceded passports and three strikeouts in his first rehab with Triple-A Tacoma on June 6. His second performance was scheduled for Sunday with a limit of 65 pitches.
