LeMahieu gives victory to Rockies over Cubs

Tyler Chatwood threw four hits in six innings, DJ LeMahieu hit a three-run homer and the Colorado Rockies beat the Chicago Cubs 4-1 on Thursday to clinch five wins, their best heat of the season.

The Rockies, leaders of the NL West, scored all their careers in the second act, after Jon Lester (3-4) struck out his first two opponents.

LeMahieu’s cross from the right field put the score 4-1. And in the face of Chatwood’s dominance, that was more than enough.

Lester fell at Wrigley Field for the first time in almost 13 months. The Cubs suffered their second stumble in a row, after threading five wins, their most outstanding streak of the season.

The Chicago defeat came hours after the Major League office reported investigating an indictment against shortstop Addison Russell for domestic violence.

Chatwood (6-7) nullified the Cubs after receiving a home run by Kris Bryant in the first inning. He also hit a single and scored a run.
Greg Holland reaped his 22nd save in the same number of opportunities, making him the leader of the majors. He resolved the ninth chapter without tolerating annotation.
For the Rockies, the Venezuelan Carlos Gonzalez of 4-0. Raimel Tapia 1-0.
For the Cubs, the Venezuelans Willson contreras of 4-1, Miguel Montero of 1-0. The Puerto Rican Javier Báez of 3-1.
