Lefty Jon Lester will make his second start for the Cubs on Inaugural Day on April 2 against the Cardinals. This was announced by manager Joe Maddon on Thursday.
Lester, who finished second in the National League Cy Young Award, was the starter on Opening Day of 2015. Jake Arrieta will be the No. 2 starter behind Lester, Maddon said.
“He definitely deserves it, he’s earned it,” Maddon said of Lester.
The left-hander led the Cubs with 19 victories last year and had a 2.44 ERA in 32 starts.
