Pitcher David Price has suffered “pain” during his recovery from a left elbow injury, Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said.
Price had a shootout from flat ground for a second straight day on Thursday, before the Toronto game. A bullpen session is scheduled on Friday.
Price won the Cy Young of the American League in 2012 with Tampa Bay. The previous season, his first with Boston, finished with a 17-9 mark and a 3.99 ERA. He began to feel discomfort in the elbow after throwing two innings in a simulated game last February.
Last week Price had three bullpen sessions in a six-day span, the last of which was on Saturday. He had planned to pitch against hitters during his team’s stay in Toronto, but the team chose not to.
Price is in the second season of a seven-year, $ 217 million deal.
