Benintendi single decides Red Sox victory in then11th

Andrew Benintendi hit a two-run single in the 11th inning and the Boston Red Sox defeated the Texas Rangers 7-5 on Monday to score their fifth straight win.

Boston needed extra innings after Mike Napoli fired a Rangers homer to closer Craig Kimbrel at the end of the ninth. Kimbrel had only squandered one of his previous 24 salvage opportunities.

In the 11th, with runners in second and third base and one out against Colombian Ernesto Frieri (0-1), the Rangers gave an intentional ticket to Dustin Pedroia, who already had three hits and four RBIs. Benintendi, who had entered as a hitter in the ninth, connected a ball that left the box on the left.
Heath Hembree (1-2), the sixth Boston pitcher, retired the six batters he faced in the last two bouts.
