New York Yankees starlet Alex Rodriguez joined his former team training camp but as a batting, defense and counseling coach, but said he would not return to wear the jersey.
Rodriguez, 41, said there were “zero” chances that he would change his mind and said his retirement from Major League Baseball was final.
The former Yankees said he did consider making a comeback after his break with the team last August.
“I thought about it for a minute,” said Rodriguez, adding that “I flew to my family’s home on a Friday night, I thought about that weekend. I had some offers, but I called them and I said, ‘No thanks.’ ”
The Yankees will pay him $ 21 million this season without a play, under the terms of his 10-year, $ 275 million contract.
